Property Abandonment - Problems for the Landlord
One of the major legal issues that can often arise is when a landlord wrongly presumes that a tenant has vacated a property and attempts to take possession of the property.
If the property owner acts improperly, without the necessary cautionary steps and the tenant has not in fact vacated the property, then they could face an expensive compensation claim from the renter for unlawful eviction.
The landlord must follow a set procedure if they believe the property has been abandoned. As with all areas of property law, it is vital that landlords take care and make sure that they behave in a fashion which does not leave themselves open to future claims.
For advice on the procedures to follow or what to do if a tenant makes a claim, please contact our specialist solicitor Tony Parkins by calling 0151 666 9090.
